The seemingly “simple” connection of lines drawn creates larger-than-life steel rod sculptures, with cartoon characters enlivening the final works that are on display at our exhibition, “Juxtapose”. To let our visitors enjoy the exhibition through a different experience, GalaxyArt held two “Caricature Drawing Workshops” in December for the participants aged 12 or above. The docents took participants on a guided tour of "Juxtapose", directing them to carefully observe the 11 exhibits, analyse the characteristics and drawing styles of the characters in the exhibits, and learn to draw caricatures of someone they know! In addition to experiencing the joy of sketching in a gallery surrounded by sculptures created by artist Tang Mun Kian, the workshop also provided a special opportunity for participants to learn to sharpen their observations of features of people around them.
December is the season of joy. From the 20th to 26th of December, GalaxyArt had successfully hosted seven sessions of “Christmas Accessories DIY Workshop” for our visitors while enjoying a guided tour of our exhibition. Happy participants showed their passion and interest to create unique and creative Christmas accessories, using colorful pipe cleaners, for their loved ones at the workshop which was perfect a Christmas gift for their loved ones.
From September to November 2021, two different themed workshops were offered to children between the ages of 5-8, and 9-12 respectively, on a complimentary basis. In the “History Re-told” workshop, GalaxyArt docent led young children through the old times of Macao, by exploring the exhibits at “Juxtapose” and participating in interactive games, with a hands-on “wire sculpture” DIY craft workshop concluded the programme. While in “Stop, Look and Think!”, children were led by docents to observe and actively think about the details of the works of art, through a series of interactive and creative activities especially designed to inspire young minds.
With the aim to engage our young people’s interests and appreciation in Macao’s history and its cultural heritage, GalaxyArt conducted 2-hour “Children’s Storytelling Sessions and Handicraft Workshops” for children aged 5-12 in July and August, 2021. During the workshops, parents and their children were treated to a docent-led tour of “Juxtapose”, followed by a storytelling session conducted by representatives of the Oral History Association of Macao. Afterwards, children participated in the handicraft workshop creating their own artwork using pipe cleaners, which they were able to bring home as souvenirs as part of their weekend spent with mom and dad.
